From: "wenca" wenca@mail.sc.cninfo.net

I have been terribly busy seeing off the last participant from Australia after the end of the Chengdu Beat Generation conference. I Always miss you and Ida , and the days we spent together at your home and Elizabeth. I even dream you and Ida of coming to Chengdu someday. Yes, the dream has to be realized. If only you make up your mind to be on the road again! I shall host you to be sure at my best.

I'll tell you in detail about the BG conference in Chengdu---a really great and grand event. And, in particular, I'll tell you about meeting David Amram here. Even at his age one of the symbols, I must say, of the everlasting beats, he is still cool and lovely. I am seriously considering not only of his returning again to Chengdu, but also I've been considering translating his books into Chinese.

The two pictures above show (1) David performing at the Conference; (2) David is with one of my students, who is reading the last paragraph of On The Road , the Chinese Version translated by me; and (3) Gordon Ball explaining his pictures of Beats at the "Remembering the Beats Exhibition " at the conference.

There is so much to tell you about. Well, I shall write you a long letter when i am back from my seven-day academic trip ( July 24--30 ) at Urumchi , a far away city in the Northern China bordering Russia. I am to leave Chengdu this afternoon by air.

Dear Al, you may post my message to you as you like on your great website. Otherwise, please forgive my late reply to you at this time before my departure. I'll write you again when i am back.
