IN THIS PROMISED LAND
for David Amram in Central Park

I wanna walk you home to Central Park
listnin to Dave Amram's quartet
playin Afro-Cuban Mid-Eastern, Native American
and Pullin thde Daisy,
where I do the Central Park Bandshell Toodleedoo

I'm thinkin of a time on the Street of Fools
and meanwhile I hear good news comin down
from Putnam Valley
its Adira sayin stay outta the restroom
father dear,
cause Hersch's makin gin in this Promised Land
and he's shakin like there's no tomorrow
thinkin to beat it down the line
to the Hudson River go all way up to Peekskill
singin the Manhattan Blues
aieyyaiyai aieyyaiyai

I feel like walkin with a skinny girl
all way up to Albany
Oh oh I know its the heat and humidity
done me in
comin down on me like the Tin Roof Blues
aint it a shame
I feel like doin an F-train boogie
and hummin I found my thrill with old Joe Hill
in This Promised Land

Oh I hear you knockin
now that there's a cool breeze blowin
and everyone singin doin the Broadway Shuffle
no more feelin mean and singin a Lowdown Dirty Blues
cause David's here
and Candido, and Keir Dullea
and Maya Dillon and Matoaka Little Eagle
so c'mon c'mon let's walk home to Central Park
lets walk home to the bandshell
to the bandshell in This Promised Land  ##
